You would constantly see updates about your settlement being raided and if you were too far away there was nothing you could do about it. In Mount and Blade Warband owning a settlement could be a bit of a hindrance. In Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord something that the developers have worked on and made a lot deeper is governing and the settlement system.
